• Final Exam will be given on June 2nd & 3rd (two days, 200 points).  We are reviewing for about a week prior to that!

  • On Thursday May 19, 2011 the 8th grade hosted an assembly for the dedication of the bell from the old high school. The bell has been restored and will be displayed in the CSHS  lobby from now on.  The 8th grade raised money to cover the costs of restoration and dispplay of the bell by selling Valentine’s Day Carnations and having an April Fool’s Day dance.  Guests at the assembly included members of the Heritage Society and members of the community who shared their memories of the old high school and the bell.      http://www.viddler.com/explore/sthompson/videos/3/

  • Highlights of our first semester

  • Research projects are in the process of being graded.  The project is assessed in several areas, and grades are given for these individual areas as opposed to a huge grade for the whole project.  This gives a better picture of strengths or deficiencies.  The major sections are Research Process, Presentation to the class, PowerPoint, and Paper.  The first grades to go in to Classroll will be the Research Process and the Class Presentations.  These will be followed by the Powerpoint and the paper.  Papers will not be completed until the end of the quarter, but we will be discussing the papers and viewing the results posted on the Turnitin website prior to the assignment of the final grade.

  • For the entire month of December we will we working on our research projects.  Everyone got a topic (colonial person) on November 30th.  During the rest of that week, we discussed requirements of the project and how to do research and create a bibliography.  We will be in the library for TWO periods every day from Dec 6-10.  It is very important that students use this time wisely and ask for help if any questions or problems arise.  Homework assignments will be given on several nights to ensure students are making progress; on the other nights students should work on whatever they need to get done.  During the week of Dec 13-17 we will continue to work in the computer lab in history class, and the following must be completed– Powerpoint due 12/14, saved into Ms Thompson’s global folder;  two page paper due 12/17.

  • On Wednesday November 24th we will have an educational class party featuring foods that would have been eaten at the First Thanksgiving, as well as some foods which may be considered traditional Thanksgiving fare today, but would definitely NOT have been consumed at dinner back in 1621!  We are taking up a collection in class to help with the grocery bill for this event~~ please make a donation as you are able!  Anything from a couple of quarters (preferrably from the states representing the original 13 colonies) to a dollar or two or three would be greatly appreciated!  If parents would like to join us for the celebration, just send word in to Ms Thompson ahead of time, be sure you know what time your child’s class meets that day, and sign in at the office when you arrive.

  • Eighth grade assembly featuring music video tribute and discussion with Mr. Baker about his military service.  Mrs. Keller also shared photographs of Afghanistan received from her daughter who was on duty there last year.

  • American Cultures 1 students will perform at the Homecoming assembly October 8th.  We are putting together an energetic step dance rendition of the Preamble to the US Constitution.  We’re loud– we’re proud– we’ll rock the house!
