March 27th is regional competition at Edinboro University ~ Best wishes to all the CSHS NHD Club members!! Here are some last minute reminders-
Regional History Day is at the Frank Pogue Center which is the Student Union of Edinboro University. It is between the library and McComb Field House on the main loop of the campus. We will meet there by 8:15 AM and will check in at the registration desk and set up exhibits. Family members are most welcome to come to this event and we hope that we are able to share this day with all those who made it possible (parents
). A welcoming ceremony at 9:15am will be followed by judging from 9:30 to 12:30 PM. Judging times will be listed with the program you receive when you check in.Lunch will be provided in the Pogue Center from 11:45 to 12:45 and awards follow at 1:00. The first and second place winners will qualify for Pennsylvania History Day on May 12-13, at Millersville, Pennsylvania. (We will be leaving Tuesday May 11th). While we would like to see all Cambridge Springs participants qualify for states, we know that this is not possible. We are proud of all students who completed their goal with History Day and hope all who completed projects and competed at Edinboro can join us at Millersville. More information on our trip to Millersville will be announced following the awards assembly at Edinboro.
What to Bring & What to Expect at Regional History Day
Exhibits: Exhibits will be set up in a large room according to the rules of History Day. You need to have 4 copies of the process paper in front of your exhibit for the judges. Duct tape has historically been a very helpful tool for exhibits in dealing with last minute glitches. The judges will review your presentation and ask you questions. No entrants should recite a rehearsed speech as part of their judging; answer questions intelligently highlighting your efforts and insights. Be sure all members of the group have the opportunity to contribute to answering the judge’s questions.
Documentaries: Documentary entrants should have 2 copies of their media on disc or jump drive and 4 copies of the process paper for the judges. You will play your documentary in front of an audience of students and judges. You will only need to introduce yourself and show the media for the audience. Judges will follow the viewing with questions about your research and video production.
Websites: Website entrants should have 4 hard copies of the website, bibliography and process paper. You will facilitate the navigation of the website and answer questions regarding your research and production for the judges, who will meet with you privately.
Papers: All historical paper entrants should bring 2 extra copies of their paper to Edinboro. Your paper has already been reviewed by the judges and you will be interviewed by a panel of judges about your thesis and sources. Know your topic and be prepared to answer questions central and related to your topic as well as how you conducted your research.
You will have time to observe the work of other students during the morning. Please be supportive to all students and avoid making negative comments about anyone’s work. Do not walk into a room while a judging is in progress and do not distract any contestants, who, like us, have worked very hard on their projects.
Your History Day Responsibilities Before the 27th
Below is a chronological list of responsibilities you must attend to in order to be ready for Regionals:
- v Now: Make revisions to your work so it is ready for judging.
- v Now: Turn in your EUP library books to Mr. Werkmeister or Ms. Thompson.
- v Wednesday 24 March Documentary and exhibit categories should contact Ms. Thompson or Mr. Werkmeister to review revisions.
- v Review your content/research notes so you can speak intelligently about your topic. Remember, you are the “expert.”
- v Saturday 27 March This is the day you have worked all year for. Have everything in place before this day so you can enjoy the experience of presenting your best work. See you at the Pogue Center at 8:15 AM
Why Our Club Should Be Proud
Without the outside pressure of a grade or credits, forty-five students in grades 7-12 (over 7% of our school’s population) will be presenting a quality piece of historical scholarship for Regional History Day. We have no doubt as to the genesis of our success…. It is you! You people inspire each other by your hard work and dedication. When your spirits and energies wavered, you soldiered on and made sacrifices of time and energy. We want you to remember how your efforts not only served you, but inspired your colleagues in the club.
On Monday 19 April, our club will be holding a banquet for members and their families to celebrate our success for the year. More details are forthcoming.
Congratulations!!! Completing your project is an amazing accomplishment! We are very proud of all of you!!

NHD projects were presented today in the CSHS library – a preview of what CSHS will bring to regional competition at Edinboro University on March 27th. Congratulations to all who brought their work to share. The feedback from students, teachers, and parents was great, and now the work of revising, reworking, and completing projects to be the best we can be at EUP begins!
